Crazy California: picking on female teens

I've been wondering lately about the crazy California ballot this year. We have all these propositions on the ballot that are making us decide some really crazy things.

Prop 4: No
I grew up with strong Latina friends, some of who gave birth when they were young. One of my best friends was pregnant when we were 15 years old! We were babies. Her boyfriend said he would help out. He was 17 years old! Like he understood what that meant. Luckily for her, she had a strong family of women who stood beside her. Her mom and two sisters had all had kids at a young age and knew what it meant to be a young single mother. In her case, she was lucky because she knew she could talk to her family about being pregnant and she knew they would back her up no matter what she decided to do. I have had other friends who did not feel that way.

We all have families that are made up differently. Another childhood friend's dad used to chase her around the house when he was drunk until she had to hide underneath the bed so he wouldn't beat her. There's no way prop 4 would help protect her if she had gotten pregnant as a teen.

This proposition wants to make it mandatory for parents to be notified of a teen's decision to abort and I know it's a bad idea. Everyone doesn't have the kind of childhood we see on the Hills. Prop 4 is just an excuse to tear down a woman's right to chose by picking on the most vulnerable: female teens!
